How to prepare your property for a film or advertising shoot
A guide for property owners: photograph your space, describe its amenities and prepare clear access and usage information for production enquiries.

Photograph the space as it really is
Take clear, recent photographs in natural light. Include wide views of the main rooms or open areas, entrances, exterior appearance and any distinctive architectural details.
A useful first set is five to six photographs that show different parts of the property. Avoid filters that change colours or hide the condition of the space. Accurate images help teams decide whether a recce is worthwhile.
- Exterior and entrance
- Main shooting areas from different angles
- Useful amenities and supporting spaces
Describe amenities that matter on a shoot
Alongside the location and approximate size, describe access, parking, washrooms, available power, lifts and places that could be used for changing or crew holding.
State limitations clearly. Shared entrances, neighbouring occupants, restricted hours or sensitive furniture can affect how a production plans the day.
Decide which areas are available
Identify rooms or areas that may be used and those that must remain private. Think about whether movable furniture can be repositioned and whether temporary dressing is acceptable.
Keep your availability information up to date. A conversation about dates and usage is more useful when both sides know the property’s practical boundaries.
Agree on expectations before the crew arrives
Discuss crew size, working hours, setup and cleanup, restoration, security and who will be the point of contact. Document the agreed scope and property conditions before the shoot.
Walk through the property with the production contact at handover and after wrap. Clear records and a shared checklist help both sides track the condition of the space.
